Since 1975, Healthcare Training Academy has been transforming lives through healthcare education in North Central West Virginia. As a community-based, non-profit career training institution, our academy has prepared thousands of students for successful careers as medical assistants, dental assistants, pharmacy technicians, certified nurse aides, medical coders, and phlebotomists. Our commitment to accessible, high-quality medical training has made our academy a trusted name in healthcare education throughout the region.

Our History and Mission

Healthcare Training Academy was established in 1975 as part of the national Opportunities Industrialization Centers network founded by Reverend Leon Sullivan. The our academy movement was born from the civil rights era's commitment to economic empowerment through education and job training. This legacy of providing opportunities to underserved populations continues to guide Our mission today.

For nearly five decades, our academy has adapted to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare industry while maintaining our core commitment to accessible education. We have expanded programs, updated curriculum, invested in modern facilities and equipment, and built partnerships with healthcare employers throughout West Virginia and beyond.

Our mission is providing short-term, hands-on career training programs that prepare students for immediate employment in high-demand healthcare occupations. We focus on healthcare careers because they offer stability, growth potential, and the opportunity to make meaningful differences in people's lives—values that align with Our founding principles.

The community-based, non-profit structure allows our academy to prioritize student success over profits. Revenue supports program quality, facility improvements, and student services rather than shareholder returns. This commitment to education mission over financial gain has earned our academy the trust of students, employers, and the broader community.

Accreditation and Quality Standards

Healthcare Training Academy is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, ensuring our healthcare programs meet rigorous quality standards. We are licensed by the West Virginia Department of Education, which oversees career and technical education institutions throughout the state.

our academy is a member of the National Association of Health Professionals (NAHP), demonstrating our commitment to professional standards in healthcare education. These credentials provide assurance that our academy programs are recognized by employers, licensing boards, and other educational institutions.

Our programs are approved for Federal Financial Aid, State Financial Aid, and Veterans educational benefits. These approvals require meeting strict standards for institutional integrity, financial stability, and educational quality. our academy undergoes regular audits and reviews to maintain these approvals.

Programmatic approvals and certifications vary by program. Our CNA program is approved by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. Medical coding curriculum aligns with standards established by AAPC and AHIMA. Pharmacy technician training meets requirements established by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.

Our Instructors and Staff

Our greatest asset is our experienced instructors who bring real-world healthcare expertise into the classroom. Our medical assistant instructors have worked in physician offices and clinics, practicing the clinical skills they now teach. Dental assistant instructors bring years of chairside experience. Pharmacy technician instructors have worked in retail and hospital pharmacies. This practical experience ensures instruction reflects actual workplace practices and prepares students for the realities of healthcare employment.

Instructors are not just subject matter experts—they are dedicated educators who understand adult learning principles and employ teaching methods that accommodate diverse learning styles. The small class sizes at our academy allow instructors to provide individualized attention, identify when students struggle, and provide additional support to ensure every student masters the material.

Support staff including admissions counselors, financial aid advisors, career counselors, and administrative personnel are committed to student success. This entire team works together to create a supportive learning environment where students can focus on mastering clinical skills and achieving their healthcare career goals.

Modern Facilities and Equipment

Our Fairmont campus provides modern facilities designed specifically for healthcare training. Medical assisting labs are equipped with examination tables, diagnostic equipment, and medical supplies that replicate physician office environments. Dental assisting labs feature dental chairs, instruments, and radiography equipment. Pharmacy labs have prescription processing stations and pharmacy software. Nursing labs provide hospital beds, patient care equipment, and clinical supplies.

This investment in facilities and equipment ensures students practice on the same tools and technology they will use in employment. Familiarity with equipment builds confidence and reduces the learning curve when graduates begin working in actual healthcare settings.

Classrooms are designed for interactive learning with audiovisual technology, computer access, and flexible seating arrangements. The learning environment is professional yet welcoming, helping students transition to the professional mindset required in healthcare careers.

Community Partnerships and Healthcare Connections

Our deep roots in North Central West Virginia have yielded partnerships with healthcare facilities throughout the region. These connections benefit students through externship placements, job opportunities, and curriculum input that ensures our medical training remains relevant to employer needs.

Partners include regional hospitals such as Fairmont Medical Center and United Hospital Center, physician practices representing various specialties, dental offices, retail and hospital pharmacies, long-term care facilities, and community health centers. These relationships, built over decades, are invaluable for student success.

We also partner with local high schools through scholarship programs and career awareness initiatives. We work with community organizations to identify individuals who could benefit from healthcare training and help them access educational opportunities. These community connections reflect our mission of economic empowerment through education.
